"Progress is improving sharply." - Ofsted May 2016

Jack Petchey Award - April/May/June 2018

April - Callum Cortes

In spite of challenges Callum faces outside of school, he is always polite and hardworking, never complaining or argues about anything in school.  Callum has recently been showing a great deal of empathy for those with autism and has helped those in his form understand what it is like to support someone who is autistic.  Callum is a great role model for others in how to deal with difficulties without letting it affect his attitude to school.

May - Sophie Thickbroom

Sophie has been nominated for her contribution to school sport and her own sport outside of school. She regularly attends swimming sessions at 5.30 in the morning and then again in the evenings whilst still representing the school and achieving well in her lessons. Her effort and attitude in school generally is excellent and she is a model representative for the school.  (Money is going to French and PE)

June - Josh Holt

From Year 12 Josh massively overcame his lack of confidence and did a full 2 week work retail placement and did amazingly well with excellent feedback from the company in Basildon.  Also, he has had very good attendance in retail lessons and done achieved well in his coursework.

Generation Medics

Year 8 students are being given the opportunity of an 8-week course gaining an understanding of working life in the NHS. Eight students are following a mentoring programme with Generation Medics who are an NHS group whose aim is to inspire and encourage young people into healthcare careers. The course offers hands-on experience, such as scrubbing up and administering anaesthetics to a ‘Mr Orange’ - under careful supervision students learnt how to fill a syringe and inject the anaesthetic.

Netball and Football Tournament

Over the Easter holiday, 66 students and 7 members of staff from The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College travelled to Disneyland Paris for the 2018 netball and football tournament.  Students stayed at Davy Crockett Ranch close to Disneyland Paris.

4 Netball Squads and 2 Footballs Squads competed over 2 days.  Netball teams received a day of coaching from some Superleague players from the Surrey Storm team. Mrs Fitzsimmons Trip Leader said, “this was an invaluable experience”.  Students and staff attended an awards dinner on the last night and we are proud that a number of trophies and awards were given to Bromfords students for their success in the tournament.   A particularly pleasing success was for Tyla Sartain who was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Students were keen to offer their comments (Maisie Jarman Year 11) “This is a trip I will never forget”. (Kieran Jones Year 11) “It was a great experience coaching younger year groups”.  These quotes really shine a light on the importance of experiences such as these for young people

Mrs Fitzsimmons said, “I am so proud of all of the Bromfords students - they represented The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College extremely well, their sportsmanship was second to none throughout the competitions.”

Councillor Visit

On Monday 16th April Bromfords School and Sixth Form College were pleased to welcome Councillor Tony Ball for a visit.  He met with students and staff, and saw the school in action.  Councillor Ball said: “I was extremely pleased to see the excellent work achieved at Bromfords School. I received a warm welcome by staff and pupils and was especially pleased to see the fantastic work that was happening in the specialist autism provision.  I am really happy that Bromfords are continuing to improve and see no reason why more success will not happen in the future.”
