MacMillan Cancer Support

On Friday 29th September The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College hosted a cake sale in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.  Students and staff were busy giving up their free time baking some fantastic and delicious cakes that were sold during break and lunch time.

Miss Cullen who organised the event has been overwhelmed with the donations.  Staff, students and parents dug deep to donate and we are pleased to announce that previous years totals have been beaten  and we have raised a whopping £519.56

School Ambassador’s

Year 7 Rhys Szuszkiewicz, Lara Clark, Charlie Brewer, Lily Dorrell and Katie Anderson have been selected to be School Ambassador’s for displaying excellent examples for their commitment to their work and our high expectations.  They have each written a speech to deliver to year 6 parents at Open Evening, they are really happy here at The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College and I know they will be excellent role models for younger students in the future.

Bromfords are the only mainstream secondary school in Essex to hold this award.  This is a powerful statement of understanding the commitment and the benefits of learning outside the classroom (LOtC).

GCSE Pod - Years 9, 10 and 11

By the end of this week , we will have delivered assemblies to students in Years 9, 10 and 11 about a resource called GCSEPod. We continue to subscribe to the award-winning service to give your child access to thousands of hours of professionally produced, audio-visual content which will benefit them throughout the coming year.

GCSEPod has over 5,000 teacher-written, audio-visual pods which have been produced specifically for learning, homework and revision. The Pods contain all the right facts, quotes, keywords, dates and annotated diagrams that your child needs for GCSE success. They won’t need to use GCSEPod for long to see the impact; in fact, consistent use of just 10-minute chunks is proven to support achievement whatever your child’s target grade is.

GCSE Results Day 2017

The 2017 summer exam season saw students at The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College sitting the new Grade 9-1 GCSEs for the first time in English and mathematics. Staff worked incredibly hard to prepare students for examinations that no one had previously sat or seen. The English and mathematics GCSEs were new exams with different content and exam paper styles. In both English and mathematics we were delighted to see an increase in the number of students achieving a pass at level 4 or above (the equivalent of A*-C last year). We were also delighted to see an increase in the number of overall passes at both level 7-9/A*-A and level 4-7/A*-C. The 9-1 grades that students have achieved in English and mathematics (and the A*-G grades for their other subjects) will be used by the Department of Education to calculate Attainment 8 and Progress 8 figures for all schools. These will be available at some time in the Autumn term.
