Sarah Kitchener 2017 Nominations

Year 7 Theo Yellop

We would like to nominate Theo for this award partly due to his contribution to the SEN department and partly due to Theo just being Theo.

He has worked as an ambassador for the SEN department, visiting primary schools on our behalf to help students with similar difficulties overcome any anxieties and fears that they may be experiencing during the transition to Secondary School. He is always happy to meet with younger pupils who require extra visits to help them settle in. Theo’s happy, smiley face instantly puts them at ease.

Meanwhile Theo battles every day with his own anxiety and difficulties due to Autism. Theo participates in extracurricular clubs, is always impeccably dressed and fully prepared for school on a daily basis. Theo’s attitude to school is extremely positive, he has collected the highest amount of credits in his tutor group and has 100% attendance.

Theo is a very caring, sensitive and polite young man who is an excellent role model for The Bromfords School.

Year 8 Lauren Woods

Lauren has been awarded for her outstanding contribution towards extra curricular activities including taking part in the school production, regular attendance of homework club, making the Christmas boxes for our elderly neighbours, and taking part in numerous sporting activities including athletics, trampolining, basketball, handball, dance, gymnastics, netball and rounders, representing the school in competitions in some of the sports. Lauren always gives 100% to anything she does including her attendance which has been 100% attendance since starting at Bromfords in Year 7.

Year 9 Danni Kerr

Started the school with severe communication issues. Danni had little confidence and found it very difficult to engage with staff or fellow students.  This proved a real disadvantage to her in school life however through dedication a commitment to battle her issues she has worked incredibly hard and has overcome her struggles.  Danni is confident and caring young lady she has a very good friendship group, and now participates in class and event takes part in presentations.  I am pleased so say that not only has Danni’s confidence grown but she is also an excellent role model and ambassador for The Bromfords School.

Year 10 - Brandon Nyman

Brandon has Asperger’s and finds some aspects of school especially English really difficult but he always tries so hard in everything he does.  Social situations can be extremely problematic, but he always  goes out of his way to be polite and friendly when, for him, it must feel rather awkward.  When it was released that Brandon was nominated for this amazing award there was an overwhelming reaction from staff who were all in agreement that Brandon would be a real worthy winner.

Year 11 - Gabriela Wells 11

Gabriela’s mother is English but lives in Spain with Gabriela’s father.  Gabriela has lived with her parents in Spain all her life and went to a Spanish speaking school.  In September last year her parents felt her education would be better served here in England and as such she came to live with her grandparents, but sadly her Grandfather passed away at the beginning of this year.  Since she has been at Bromfords she has worked hard and is a credit to herself and the school.  She is a genuinely lovely, polite and helpful student and has adjusted well to the move and the change in her family circumstances.  I feel she deserves to be acknowledged for this.

Iceland Photograph Competition

Bromfords pupils who attended the Iceland trip at Easter were offered the opportunity of entering a photographic competition. We had a range of fantastic photos to show the beautiful scenery of Iceland. Mr. Coulson and Mr. Edwards judged the competition, choosing the winners below.

1st  Robyn

3rd  Ted

Well done to all who entered some beautiful photographs, that can be seen in the library.

Sir our room is full of snakes!!!

On the 26th of April we had some very interesting visitors to our lesson. We have been researching Reptiles and Arachnids in order to create Animal Fact Files suitable for 7-10 year olds. As part of our project Mr Upward encouraged us to book a visit from a company called Snakes Alive.

This was a really enjoyable learning experience as we developed many skills ranging from making a formal online booking to extending literacy skills such as writing for a specific target audience, identifying and summarising facts and presenting information.
